Beauty of Nepal

I am really excited by whats been happening in Nepal over the past couple of weeks. I am not sure if you can see any beauty in it but let me tell you why I feel it is beautiful, more beautiful than Manisha or the Mt Everest.

Last couple of weeks has seen the common man in Nepal stand up to the King. They have come together like never before against their King who not very long ago was thought of as an incarnation of Vishnu. So what's great about that? There were lots of revolutions in which the common men slaughtered the royalty like the French or the Russians. True but the beauty of the Nepali protests is the lack of individual leaders, this is a true people movement. They are dictating terms to everyone. There is no individual leading them in the rallies. It is ordinary students like me, like you standing up to the batons, the tear gas shells, the bullets.......... If you see images from Nepal you wont see any leader participating in the protests. It is largely young people predominantly students challenging their King. You see them standing up to the armed forces to fight for their rights. And they won. This is the kind of stuff that typically only happens in the climax of Shankar's movies.

The protests have relatively been peaceful for their size. The leaders of the coalition are hiding indoors from the curfew but the common man went to the street to fight against the tyranny. The political parties would have happily accepted the initial truce offer by the King. Infact most of the world welcomed the truce offer only to be embarrassed after seeing the people's reaction. They want nothing less than complete democracy. They have forced the coalition to turn down the Kings offer. They have forced the king to reinstate the parliament. They have changed their destiny, the hard way and will cherish it for long.

Amidst all this our very own rediff.com came up with a article with a heading like
"Gyanendra:Last Hindu Monarch?". I have seen many outrageous headlines on rediff but this must be the most disgusting. I would really love to see the King dethroned and him to be the last Hindu king. The Kings should be in the museum and not in the constitutional bodies and that's irrespective of religion. Hope the Brits realize that sometime soon. They spend a lot of time and money on all the stupid things their royal family gets into.

And finally for all the Manisha Koirala fans who have read this far I didn't really want to disappoint you. So watch this.

Through out this process, I was just holding my breath praying the Gods just not to hear another Tianemem square. We all welcome this development in our neighbourhood and the day is not too far away when our brothers in the East encouter a similar situation.
That time, hopefully, I wil play the Sitaram Yechury....

welcome onboard chakka.

brothers in the east? if u mean the chinese, they are smart. they are communists who follow more capitalism than Indians. They hav opened up their economy more than the Indian Commmunists will ever allow UPA to. I think it'll be a gradual change in china, cos their communism is dynamic and adapts. They are not stuck in primitive ideology.

ooh that was a bad typo. I would have thought u got confused between east and west.

I am not very sure that the Pakisthanis will revolt against Mush. Anyways I didnt expect the Nepalis to do it either. But I would love to see that happen. It is much safer to have democratic neighbours. And a good number of Pakis actually came out in support of the Nepali movement. Maybe its a sign of things to come.
